What Will I Wear
Worry. One word with five letters. One simple word that can hold so much weight, if we let it!
Faith. One word with five letters. One simple word that can hold so much weight, if we let it! Faith, is the confidence (substance) in what we hope for and the assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1).
Matthew 6:28-30 says, “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”
Why do we worry?
No seriously, why do we worry? Why do we put on worry sometimes like it’s an article of clothing when we, as believers in Jesus, are called to live by faith? Worry is attached and rooted in fear, doubt, uncertainty, etc. Worry robs us of hope. It robs us of confidence. It robs us of certainty. I’ve noticed in my own life, that worry can rob me of life itself. There have been times where worry has made me feel so heavy and yet I still put it on knowing the effects it can have on me. Worry can cause me to see life in chaos as opposed to the beauty that life itself holds.
This morning I began to think of worry as an article of clothing and thought to myself, “Why do I choose to wear this? Why don’t I wear faith? I know how faith feels, I know how faith looks and I know how it brings me peace, even if the situation itself is not peaceful. Faith gives me back my confidence and a pep in my step like putting on a new pair of jeans that I know I look good in. Faith (trust) puts my heart, mind, spirit and soul to rest. It brings me ease and safety. I’ve noticed when I have faith in the One who holds it all together, it makes me fall more in love with Jesus. It causes my heart to love Him more because I realize He cares for me and will take care of me.
Matthew 6:28-30, the verses shared above, are some of the most beautiful words in the Bible spoken by Jesus (in my opinion). In my mind, I believe He was thinking of me when He said these words. He wanted me to know that He will clothe me (He will take care of me). He wanted me to know that I can trust Him. I can have faith in Him and be confident in Him. I absolutely love when Jesus says, “Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all His splendor was dressed like one of these.” King Solomon was a King. I’ve seen enough movies and TV shows to know that royalty do not dress carelessly or ever look raggedy LOL. Have you seen the royal family?! LOL.
Friends, this is so much more than clothing. It’s about whether or not we decide to have faith in the One that has given us life. It’s about trusting Him in all things and being confident in Him.
I feel like I talk about this all the time and it’s true, I do. But it’s because He’s working in my heart and spirit concerning trusting Him.
Simple questions for you today:
What will you wear?
Worry or faith-which makes you feel and look better?
Why do you worry?
If you’re reading this and don’t know or believe in Jesus, that’s okay. Welcome to On Fridays, We Clean and know that the God of the universe is absolutely besotted with you. He loves you with a love that we’ll never truly understand because of our flawed understanding of love. He wants you to get to know Him and He’ll wait for you. You don’t have to be afraid of Him. Don’t believe the lies that He’s a mean God, pointing His finger at you and condemning you. He loves you and is waiting with open arms to embrace you with unconditional love. You can give Him a chance. Give Him a chance to show you who he really is, not what people have told you, and experience Him for yourself.
We love you, Jesus and I.
